Hey, it’s me, Julie Marx.

The one in the fuchsia-colored shirt. In August of 2019, on the campus of Luxun Academy of Fine Arts in Shenyang. A photographer for Liaoning Today Magazine took the picture when I gave my first ever all-Chinese interview. The magazine was featuring foreigners, asking them to share how they saw Shenyang, their adoptive home town. And I was one of them. Because, in 2014, I followed my engineer husband on his expat assignment to China. This was the first time that I “tagged along” with someone else going abroad, and it opened my eyes to the challenges of following along to someone else’s work agenda.

My struggle and that of the other spouses around me (many of whom wrestled with the decisions to be made and the challenges their new role brought with it) led me to create China Expat Spouse. It is a platform specifically for the partners accompanying expatriates to the PRC. So that they can discover their place, purpose, and passion in China.

EMPOWERING COACH

I support my clients to reach and exceed their goals by helping them find their place, purpose, and passion in China. Whether that means finding a new job, furthering their education, bolstering their resume through volunteering or founding an online business, or better balancing their family commitments and time for personal development.

I am a Whole Person Certified Coach (WPCC) with Coach Training World. This means that I have accumulated 125+ hours of coach-specific education and 100+ hours of coaching experience.

Whole Person Coaching is a coaching method based on knowing, embracing, and expressing all aspects of your whole self. This holistic approach positions you to thrive in any part of your life. By challenging old thought and behavior patterns, it is experience-oriented and offers a transformative learning journey.

I am also registered with the International Coach Federation (ICF) as an Associate Certified Coach (ACC). This means I have accumulated 125+ hours of education and (to date) 200+ hours of coaching experience.

The ICF is the largest global member network of professional coaches with over 35,000 credential holders in 140+ countries. As a member, not only have I undergone rigorous education and practice requirements that provide unquestioned legitimacy to my commitment to excellence in coaching, I have also pledged myself to adhering to the ICF Code of Ethics.

Some of the ways I show up for my clients are:

-1:1 coaching (in a one-off discovery session around a specific topic or on a regular basis with a longer-term coaching package)

-group coaching (with up to 5 participants that give one another additional accountability)

INTERCULTURAL COURSE CREATOR

With my 4 working languages (German, English, French, and Chinese), I write, create, train and educate people the world over. Having grown up in a bilingual household and with experiences on 3 continents under my belt, I am able to connect with individuals from various backgrounds and cultures.

In workshops and trainings on topics from leadership development, intercultural communications, and teamwork to “survival trainings” for newly-arrived expats in China, I engage, educate, and inspire my audiences.

I possess 10+ years of corporate training experience for more than 20 different clients such as Jaguar-Landrover, Schaeffler Group, Mann + Hummel, Festo, Daiichi-Sankyo, Huawei, ZTE, Kärcher, ZF, Liebherr, and more.
